pod studies
The Pod Studies explore architecture as an object of uncertain origin and scale. Their rounded bodies, apertures, cavities, and porous surfaces evoke biological organisms without directly representing them. They feel simultaneously familiar and alien, biological and artificial. Their surfaces suggest erosion, fossilization, bone, coral, or weathered stone, while their geometries imply fabrication. They could be ancient artifacts uncovered from the ground or speculative structures yet to be made. This tension between archaeological and futuristic is central to the work.
At the scale of a public park or playground, the pods become inhabitable objects. Openings become entrances, cavities become rooms, and projections become places to climb, look, and gather. Stairs, bridges, and platforms transform the objects from things to be observed into things to be explored.
Their playful, almost anthropomorphic presence makes them accessible without becoming literal characters. They remain slightly alien—objects whose purpose is never fully explained.
