totem facade
The architectural studies ask what happens when the totem is released from the scale of the individual object and repeated across a building.
Here, the totems become a building skin—an independent sculptural layer positioned between architecture and landscape. Repeated across a façade, they operate simultaneously as ornament, screen, and spatial device, filtering light and views while producing depth, shadow, and changing patterns.
The skin introduces an alternative order to the rational structure behind it. The building provides the frame; the totems provide its identity. Columns, slabs, and glass establish a disciplined architectural grid, while the totems interrupt it with color, irregularity, tactility, and play.
The result is neither conventional cladding nor applied decoration, but a permeable field of objects that transforms architecture into something more ambiguous—part façade, part sculpture, and part inhabitable landscape.
